Alexandria Councilman Canek Aguirre released the following statement on Governor Abigail Spanberger’s veto of legislation that would legalize skill games:
"I applaud and thank Governor Spanberger for her veto of Senate Bill 661. I started sounding the alarm during my first term and consistently asked our state legislators for updates as to the status of these machines because there’s no two ways about it - skill games are predatory and consistently placed in lower-income neighborhoods. You never saw these machines going into country clubs or boutique spas and there’s a reason why.”
In January, Aguirre sent a letter to the Virginia Senate General Laws and Technology Subcommittee in opposition to SB661 on behalf of the City of Alexandria.
